As main contractor Russell Roads undertook excavation and stabilisation; construction of a base course layer; laying of chip seal and hot mix; construction of stormwater drainage and worked with sub contractors to complete kerbing and channel construction; construct footpaths and berms; lay interlocking pavers and install lighting.

This was a project valued at $1 million and had a number of challenges with both a hospital and school accessing the road.

As the work progressed, a number of new difficulties were encountered as many of the old services had not been recorded in past years and it became obvious that this area was a dumping ground for rubble from the 1930 earthquake.

The end result was very good with the client, Napier City Council, very pleased.
