Russell Roads is a family owned business, established in 2002 and run by Chris Russell. Chris Russell has been operating his own businesses in Hawkes Bay for over 30 years and has been involved in road construction since 1973 when he and his brother Ken established Russell Asphalts. Russell Asphalts became a major component of the contracting industry in Hawke's Bay and was sold in 1987. Chris took a break from roading and tried his hand at a number of other ventures before returning to roading in 1990 to establish Hutchins and Russell Earthmovers with brother Ken and friend and colleague Vic Hutchins. The company started off primarily in earthmoving before moving toward specialised roading construction.

Chris spent six years as Chairman of the Hawke's Bay branch of the Contractor's Federation before serving on the national executive for six years. He took up the challenge of being president of the National Contractor's Federation and has just come to the end of his two year tenure.

Chris is dedicated to providing both quality workmanship and a safe, enjoyable environment for his employees. Russell Roads was recently accredited as the number one company for running QEST Management System in New Zealand. This system is designed to enable the company to keep its work at a high standard, look after the environment and safety of its workers.

Russell Roads was awarded the PanPac Large Business of the Year for 2006 at the Hawke's Bay Westpac Chamber of Commerce Business Awards - another fantastic achievement to go with the growing list of national and international awards already received by the team at Russell Roads.
